West Monroe, located in Ouachita Parish, is situated on the Ouachita River and is located across from the neighboring city of Monroe. West Monroe has a population of 13,065 residents and is considered part of the larger Monroe Metropolitan Area. This city is an energetic, growing and friendly area with a small-town atmosphere and yet it has many of the amenities and features of a larger city.
Located on the banks of the Ouachita River, Downtown West Monroe’s Antique Alley is bustling with a diverse shopping experience including antique malls, individual antique stores, boutiques, specialty shops, restaurants, a bed and breakfast, events and meeting spaces. Southern Living has deemed it ‘a shopaholic’s delight that has pretty much anything a shopper with eclectic tastes could want.’
West Monroe is known for its vivid outdoor spaces and parks. Nestled on 150 acres, Kiroli Park features jogging and nature trails, a fishing pond, beautiful gardens, covered picnic areas, a theatre stage for performances, Raising Cane’s Dog Park, and the all-inclusive Smiles Park. Restoration Park is a 70-acre forest and wetland park that surrounds a scenic lake and serves as a peaceful retreat. The D’Arbonne National Wildlife Refuge, located just 10 miles north of West Monroe, offers a wide variety of wildlife dependent recreational opportunities. Thousands of people visit to fish and hunt while others traverse the refuge to birdwatch, see wildlife, and take pictures.
Landry Vineyards is another popular local attraction in the beautiful hill country of West Monroe on a 20-acre site including a winery, vineyards and tasting room. The Ike Hamilton Expo Center, or “The Ike” as it has come to be called, is the only equestrian and livestock air-conditioned facility in Louisiana. It is used primarily for rodeos and horse shows, but hosts a vast variety of other events like monster truck shows, BMX racing, concerts, auto shows, marathons, trade shows, dog agility trials, and trade shows.
The West Monroe Sports & Events facility includes state-of-the-art indoor facilities that can be used for sports and events throughout the year. This new facility is home to 8 basketball courts, 16 volleyball courts, 16 pickleball courts, and multi-purpose rooms.
